Anglicans first settled in New Hampshire in the 1630s, but the first parish was not established until 1732.  During and following the Revolutionary War, many Anglicans fled to Canada, leaving the young Episcopal Church in the United States, for many years, without sufficient number of clergy and members to sustain strong congregations .

The Diocese of New Hampshire was organized in 1802, separating from Massachusetts to elect its own bishop, establish its own Convention and adopt its own Constitution and Canons.  The Right Reverend V. Gene Robinson serves as the ninth bishop.  New Hampshire Episcopalians number over 12,000 in 50 parishes and missions, and the diocese is one of the fastest growing in the Episcopal Church.
